The front of the Banknote features a design of the National Parliament together with a reduced National Crest on the top left corner. The serial numbers and signatures of the Governor of the Bank of Papua New Guinea and the secretary for Finance appear on the side

The main feature on the back of the note is a portrait of Sir Michael Somare surrounded by designs of Headdress and masks from the:

  • Bainings (East New Britain)
  • The Orokolo ( Gulf Province)
  • The Huli ( Southern Highlands Province)
  • The Tubuan ( East New Britain Province )
  • A West Sepik and a Malagan Mask ( New Ireland Province)
  • Other features include Karkar spears and artists interpretations of Tapa from the Oro Province
  • Central ( Mekeo) and Morobe ( Siassi) Provinces.
