Papua New Guinean hosts Central Bank Governors Meeting

Papua New Guinea was a host to the South Pacific Governors Meeting (SPGM) on Dec 6 -7.

Six Central Bank Governors from Tonga, Samoa, Fiji, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea attended the 28th South Pacific Governors Meeting. Deputy Governors from the Reserve Bank of Australia and Papua New Guinea attended the two days meeting.

The delegation who met in Port Moresby discussed financial inclusion activities in the South Pacific and discussed the roles and functions of central banks in adapting to ever-changing global economic conditions.

The two days meeting also provided an opportunity for commercial Banks in Papua New Guinea to provide an update of their activities in the Pacific.

Chief Executive Officers for Westpac, ANZ and Bank South Pacific. Included in the meeting were development partners from International Monetary Fund, International Finance Corporation, Pacific Financial Technical Assistance Centre, Pacific Financial Inclusion Programme and Australian Prudential Regulation Authority.

The meeting ended with a site visit to the Liquefied Natural Gas facility along the Lealea road, west of Port Moresby city and a visit to the Financial Inclusion Exposition at the Sir John Guise Stadium, Port Moresby.
