Amendments  to  the  Central  Banking  Act  2000

The  Central  Banking  Act  2000  was amended in December 2021 in Phase 1 of the Review of the Central Bank.  These amendments redefined the governance structures of the Central Bank, including the roles and functions of the Governor and Board, formulation and implementation of the Monetary Policy, financing arrangements and in particular the Temporary Advance Facility (TAF) financing in national emergencies.  The amendments also aim to improve independence, accountability and transparency in the Bank’s operations.  The Bank’s objectives have also been widened to include emphasis on economic growth and employment creation.

Phase 2 of the Review covering the broader areas of the financial sector development, Board Monetary Policy Committee, payments system and other related matters will be undertaken next.
