50th SEACEN Governors conference

The Bank of PNG has successfully hosted the 50th South East Asian Central Banks (SEACEN) Governors and 34th High Level Meeting of the SEACEN Board of Governors (BOG) at the Laguna Hotel, Port Moresby, November 20-22, 2014.

The Minister for Treasury Hon. Patrick Pruaitch was invited to officiate at the opening ceremony of the two days conference and the Governor Bakani chaired the meeting.

The conference was attended by twenty (20) SEACEN member countries Governors and Head of Delegation with their technical officers. The theme of the Conference was “Regional Initiatives in the Midst of Vulnerabilities”.

In the 34th BOG Meeting, Governors reviewed the strategic role of SEACEN in building central banking capabilities and networking through its comprehensive learning and applied research programs.

At the Meeting the following countries admitted as new SEACEN’s Associate Members were Reserve Bank of Australia, Bangladesh Bank, Royal Monetary Authority of Bhutan, Monetary Authority of Macao, State Bank of Pakistan and National Reserve Bank of Tonga.

The SEACEN Governors accepted with thanks the offer of Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas to host the 51th Conference of the SEACEN Governors and 35th Meeting of the SEACEN Board of Governors in 2015.

Governors also expressed their appreciation towards the BPNG for the excellent arrangement and warm hospitality in hosting this year’s SEACEN Governors’ Conference and SEACEN Board of Governors’ Meeting.

Governor Bakani expressed his sincere gratitude to the Bank Staff who worked tirelessly to ensure the successful SEACEN conference.
