Mr. Koiari Tarata

Mr.Koiari Tarata, OBE, from Central Province, was The Third Governor and served in office from September 15th, 1994 to April 8th, 1998. He was a former Secretary for the Department of Finance and Treasury.

He served during a period of domestic financial crisis following years of fiscal mismanagement which resulted in the abandonment of the fixed exchange rate regime adopted at independence for a floating regime. The country also sought financial assistance from the international financial community including the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and foreign governments.
