Genset Donations Give Gift of Life

Bank of Papua New Guinea has gone an extra mile beyond its financial regulatory functions by donating vital life saving gifts to hospitals and health centers in the country.

Last month, Papua New Guinea celebrated its 38th Independence anniversary. To symbolize this historic milestone by giving back to the country, Bank of Papua New Guinea Governor, Loi Bakani donated three generators and a blood refrigerator to support the rural health sector in the country.

Eight Bank staff visited the Vanimo Hospital in West Sepik, Malalia Health Centre in West New Britain province, Kudjip Nazarene Hospital in the new Jiwaka Province and Moreguina Health Center in Central province and donated three 14 kilovolts ampere generators and a blood refrigerator for their Blood Bank.

The gensets and refrigerator at a cost of K 120,000 will increase the number of patients able to access these services. It will also enable the hospital to operate without power disruptions.

Abau District Health Coordinator, Etene Boyama was overwhelmed by the important gesture.

The donation would now upgrade Moreguina health center to a level 3 standard. This means the hospital can now operate twenty four with full electricity to cater for proper storage of blood and medicine she explained.

The genset will also enable the hospital to have a cool storage for anti-venoms which are a greatly needed to treat snake bites in the District.

Moreguina can also attend to emergencies at night and we thank Bank of PNG for the generosity, Ms Boyama added.
