Notice of Issuance of Commemorative currencies; K20 Banknote to Commemorate 40th Anniversary of PNG Independence, K10 Banknote and 50t Coin to commemorate XV Pacific Games

I, Loi M Bakani, Governor of the Bank of Papua New Guinea, by virtue of the powers conferred by Section 61(1) and (2) of the Central Banking Act 2000, hereby give notice of the forthcoming issue into circulation of the new K20 and K10 commemorative banknotes and 50t coin effective 21st May 2015.

K20 Commemorative Banknote

The K20 banknote has been resized as part of the banknote reform process undertaken by the Bank to standardize the size of Papua New Guinea banknotes.  All other features of the banknote such as the colour and all the design elements of the existing new series banknote remain the same, however, the K20 banknote incorporates a special overprint of the 40th Anniversary of Papua New Guinea Independence and the National Bird of Paradise image above the Parliament House.

K10 Commemorative Banknote

The K10 banknote has been resized as part of the banknote reform process undertaken by the Bank to standardize the size of Papua New Guinea banknotes.  All other features of the banknote such as the colour and all the design elements of the existing new series banknote remain the same, however, the K10 banknote incorporates a special overprint of the XV Pacific Games logo in yellow, red, green, black and blue in colour located above the Parliament House.

Coloured and standard 50t Coins

These coins retain the dimensions and most design elements of the existing 50 toea coin except that one is bearing the Pacific Games colours yellow, red, green, black and blue and the other 50 toea is without colour.

In addition a special numismatic coins of limited number has been produced to commemorate the XV Pacific Games and is available for interested buyers and collectors.

The Banknotes and new 50 toea coins will become legal tender when it is officially released into circulation on 21 May 2015.
